Unfold the StoryMap: One (Echoing) Story is a one lesson launchpad
a visual introduction to exploring the Bible and practicing the way of Jesus
Dear fellow story-dwellers,
If you’ve been journeying alongside OneStory, you’ve probably seen several iterations of our StoryMap. We first introduced it in the very first unit of our very first curriculum (Teach Us to Pray). It also makes appearances in almost all of our other resources.
From the beginning, we saw how the StoryMap could help our families visualize theme and patterns in order to see how they all fit together as one big story that points to Jesus. The plan was to guide students in adding to the map until it looked something like this:
However, this past Spring, Nicole and I challenged ourselves to present the entire map to adults in a single 1-hour workshop session at the Children’s Spirituality Summit. We left that workshop with a challenge: could we find a way to teach it to kids in a single lesson?
As of this week, the answer is yes.
One (Echoing) Story
Technically, it’s one lesson in two parts. However, my kids (ages 16, 14, 12, 9) and I were able to go through (twice!) with just a short break in the middle. I plan to teach it to a group of homeschooled middle and high school students in early October, so it is suitable for a wide age range and versatile settings.
One (Echoing) Story invites your family into the adventure of following Jesus towards his goal of “thy kingdom come, on earth as it is in heaven.”
As you journey through the StoryMap together, you’ll discover how Genesis 1-11 lays out a storied pattern of how God and Humanity relate to one another. As a story, it has a plot, a crisis, and a goal. This pattern then echoes throughout the entire Bible.
Mapping the pattern helps us:
See and remember the overarching story of Bible
Understand how and where each passage of the Bible fits within this story
Recognize how Jesus meets us and teaches us in these same patterns today
Partner with God in what He is doing
We see One (Echoing) Story as a launchpad for whatever Bible Studies or curriculum you are doing this year. It can help them hold together what they’ve already learned while laying a foundation for continued Bible study and discipleship. Whether you continue to build on it with OneStory’s resources or use resources from other ministries, we hope this two-part lesson will help your students see the big picture of what the Bible is teaching and how they can enter into this story.
As with all of our resources, One (Echoing) Story is free and was published with the help of donations.
A Blessing
OneStory seeks to partner with what God is already doing in and through your family. My prayer is that One (Echoing) Story and the StoryMap will help each of you become even more aware of how He has been with you each step of your journey.
“May your love abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.” (Philippians 1:9-11, NIV)
In grace and peace,
Amber
Blessings from Spain! Congratulations for the hard work. I'd like to download the "One (Echoing) Story" content but the link takes me to the page to purchase and get a physical copy? Is there any file link instead?
